Travel advisory
Level 3 · Reconsider travel
Raised to Level 3 on 29 August 2026, citing terrorism risk and an ongoing threat of drone and missile attacks from Iran following hostilities in February 2026, plus significant disruption to commercial flights. Most universities will not approve study abroad at Level 3 — confirm with CU Education Abroad before planning anything here.
Visa and entry
Difficulty: Moderate Lead time: 4–8 weeks, handled by your host institution
Your host institution sponsors a student residence visa and handles most of the filing, which makes the paperwork lighter than Europe. That is not the constraint here — the advisory level is. Program availability and flight reliability are the real questions right now.

We are students, not immigration advisers. Requirements change and depend on your citizenship and program length. Always confirm against the official consulate site above and with CU Education Abroad.
From the team
A few things worth knowing before you get there.
- Formula 1 runs the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina each season, usually in late autumn.
- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is free to enter, with a dress code enforced at the door.
- Weekends are Saturday and Sunday, but many businesses still run a Friday half-day around prayers.
- Summer heat is extreme — outdoor life mostly stops between June and September.
